Years 7, 8 and 9 In years Seven, Eight and Nine, all students will follow the same curriculum based on the following subjects:

Some students are able to study for NVQ or GNVQ courses and additionally, all students take Physical Education Notes: (b) Sex Education is essentially a part of the Religious Education syllabus and is taught within the wider context of love and Christian family life. Topics dealt with include responsibility and care for others, the family, love, virginity, courtship, marriage, divorce, natural family planning, contraception, abortion and AIDS. The Church's teaching is presented clearly. Meetings are arranged with parents to explain the school policy in this matter and the student formation programme in general. (c) Teaching - excluding assembly, registration and breaks - takes place for four hours and fifty minutes each school day. (d) A weekly timetabled lesson in Personal, Social and Spiritual Education is taught to all students. Additionally, morality, health education, economic awareness, information technology, personal and social development, and relevance to the worlds of work and the family provide strands of development running through all the subjects that are taught. (e) The following approved examinations are taken by students of the school:
(f) A tutorial system of careers guidance under the Careers Teacher operates from Year 9 upwards. Students are provided with two weeks of work experience in Year 10 or 11. An Officer of the Careers Service assists in vocational counselling and guidance. Students are made aware of entry conditions to continued education and training. Speakers are invited from time to time and there is an extensive and comprehensive Careers Library. The Careers Service and post-16 education providers are invited to Parents' Evening. As students approach statutory leaving age, they receive information explaining the current employment situation, the development of modern apprenticeships and also initiatives currently being undertaken by the Local Education Authority in respect of Vocational Preparation Courses and Work Experience. All students have the opportunity to have their careers work accredited through the local "Aiming Higher" award scheme. (h) All documents required to be available under the law may be inspected at the school at any reasonable time by prior arrangement. |
