School Discipline

Back to the Prospectus

Discipline in the school is set in the context of encouraging an increasing understanding of responsibility and the progressive development of personal discipline as a preparation for mature Christian adulthood. Service to the school community is encouraged and rewarded by a special merit system. Effort, helpfulness, courage and other qualities are recognised individually or at School Assemblies.

When necessary, children are reprimanded and invited to apologise to those offended. For some offences, children are deprived of free time by detention, sometimes after school hours. In the latter case, the children are given 24 hours notice in writing so that they can inform their parents. In cases of more serious misbehaviour or persistence in bad conduct by a student, parents are invited to the school to discuss the matter with the Head Teacher or his representitive. Outright defiance, deliberate damage to property or equipment, or conduct likely to endanger others are examples of misconduct that might merit exclusion.

Parents will be asked to pay for damage to books, equipment or the building resulting from students' behaviour. A full written policy document entitled "Raising Achievement through the Promotion of Positive Behaviour" is available from the school.
