Pastoral Care

Back to the Prospectus

The purpose of our pastoral care system is to provide a community which is regarded by each student as a place where they feel:

  • happy
  • at home
  • safe

A place where they:

  • belong
  • feel valued
  • feel special and
  • feel respected.

The structure we employ to achieve this ensures that each student has a form tutor who is directly responsible for them and to whom the student should refer if any help is needed. The form tutor looks after the spiritual, social, intellectual and emotional needs of their charges and ensures their physical safety.

In this role as form tutor, support is provided by the Pastoral Team. It is their job to follow up, at the request of form tutors, any matters of concern. It may be necessary sometimes, to refer matters to the Deputy Head Teacher (Mr Brolly), the Deputy Head Teacher (Mr Howard), or the Head Teacher (Mr Mellows) in exceptional cases.

The welfare of students is in the hands of the Form teachers supported by the Pastoral Team, but every teacher is involved in pastoral care. The local clergy and School Chaplain are regularly available in School for counselling and consultation. The School Doctor, School Nurse and the Education Welfare Officer attend the school as necessary.

The school requires a note or telephone call when a student is late or ill. If a student becomes ill at school, the facilities of the Medical Room may be made available, or parents contacted to collect their child.

The two principles we operate on in this context are cooperation and partnership. We seek for and expect the cooperation of students and we value our partnership with parents.

The school has a very effective anti-bullying policy, and copies are available on request.
