Special Curricular Arrangements
Curricular adaptations and other arrangements are where possible, made in respect of children who are handicapped or whose illnesses, temporary or permanent, do not permit them to follow the normal curriculum of the school. Priority is given to enabling those with learning difficulties to participate in normal classes as soon as possible. Some students with special educational needs may require formal assessment. Arrangements for formal assessment will follow the procedures laid down by the local authority. The school is supported by the Local Authority's Child Guidance Centre. Encouragement is given to enable students to develop their special gifts or talents. (a) The name of the Governor designated to have oversight of this aspect of the school's work is Mrs S Popplewell. (b) The name of the member of staff having responsibility for the school's arrangements for identifying and meeting the special needs of students is Mrs W Taylor. (a) Setting by achievement applies in many areas of the curriculum increasingly so as students progress through the school. In some areas, students continue to be taught in mixed ability classes. The progress of students is carefully monitored and parents receive reports at Christmas and in the Summer. (b) All students have a planned homework timetable and are also expected to learn to organise their private study at home. |
